Its distribution spans numerous regions including Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Caprivi Strip, the Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, India, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and Laos. The species was formally published in 1960.
