Juglans microcarpa, known as little walnut, is a shrub or small tree native to Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and northern Mexico. It grows in streamside and ravine habitats at elevations from 700 to 6700 ft. The plant produces small nuts and has pinnately compound leaves with 7–25 leaflets.

Description

Juglans microcarpa, described by Berland in 1850, is a member of the Juglandaceae family. It is also referred to as Texas walnut, Texas black walnut, or little black walnut. This species is distributed across the United States and globally in regions such as the North Caucasus, Transcaucasus, and Tajikistan. The plant typically grows as a large shrub or small tree, producing nuts 1/2–3/4 in wide. Its leaves are pinnately compound, with 7–25 leaflets that are untoothed to finely toothed, each 1/4–1/2 in wide. It thrives in riparian and ravine environments.
