Lisianthius nigrescens is a shrub native to southern Mexico and Guatemala, part of the Gentianaceae family. It is known in Spanish as flor de muerte. The plant is characterized by its very dark flowers, which can range in color from dark purple to nearly black.

Description

Lisianthius nigrescens, described by Schltdl. & Cham. in 1831, is a member of the Gentianaceae family. This shrub is found in southern Mexico and Guatemala. The flowers of this species are notable for their intense dark coloration, which can be attributed to high levels of anthocyanin pigment, up to 23% by weight.
