Lilium jankae
Lilium jankae A.Kern.

Lilium jankae A.Kern. is a species in the Liliaceae family, first described by Kerner in 1877. It was named in honor of Victor Janka, who first observed the plant in 1868 in Verespatak, Romania, while searching for L. albanicum. Janka noted differences from known lily species and provisionally associated the plant with L. pyrenaicum. Kerner later formally described the species as L. jankae, based on specimens collected by Janka and revised by Kerner. The species is distributed globally, with records in Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Romania, and Yugoslavia.
Description
Lilium jankae was first observed by Victor Janka in 1868 in Verespatak, Romania, during a search for L. albanicum. Janka collected specimens and noted that they did not match known species, tentatively associating them with L. pyrenaicum. He transported 50 bulbs to his garden for further study. In 1877, Kerner formally described the species as Lilium jankae, honoring Janka. The description was based on herbarium specimens collected by Janka and revised by Kerner, including three sheets from July 1868 and June 1869. The species is now known to occur in several European countries, including Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Romania, and Yugoslavia.
