Leptolaena multiflora is a flowering plant species in the Sarcolaenaceae family, native to Madagascar. It inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and sandy shores. The species is classified as Endangered due to habitat loss and limited sub-population protection.

Description

Leptolaena multiflora, described by Thouars in 1807, is a member of the Sarcolaenaceae family and is endemic to Madagascar. Its distribution is global only in the sense that it is cataloged worldwide, but it is naturally found only in Madagascar. The species is primarily threatened by habitat loss, with only four of approximately 19 sub-populations located within protected areas. This has led to a preliminary Endangered (EN) status due to the risk of a population reduction of over 50% in the next three generations. It is known by several vernacular names in Madagascar, including Amaninombilahimena, Amaninombilahy, and Anjananjana, among others.
