Benstonea lauterbachii, known as Lauterbach's pandan, is a shrub or small tree in the family Pandanaceae. It grows up to 15 m (49 ft) tall and is endemic to the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, Australia. Previously classified as Pandanus lauterbachii in 1900, it was reclassified in 2012 by Martin Callmander and Sven Buerki into the newly established genus Benstonea. The species is distributed from the tip of Cape York to Iron Range, with an isolated population near Tully at the Hull River.

Description

Benstonea lauterbachii is a member of the Pandanaceae family and is native to Queensland, specifically the Cape York Peninsula. It was originally described under the genus Pandanus in 1900 but was later moved to the genus Benstonea in 2012. This reclassification was based on taxonomic revisions by Martin Callmander and Sven Buerki. The plant is found in a range extending from the northern tip of Cape York to the Iron Range region, with an additional occurrence at the Hull River near Tully. It is a shrub or small tree that can reach a height of 15 m (49 ft).
