Lanaria lanata, known as Cape edelweiss or lambtails, is the sole species in the monotypic genus Lanaria and the family Lanariaceae. It is endemic to the southern coast of South Africa, specifically within the fynbos belt. The family Lanariaceae was recently recognized by taxonomists and is acknowledged in the APG IV system of 2016.
Description
Lanaria lanata (L.) T.Durand & Schinz is a flowering plant species native to the Cape Provinces of South Africa. It belongs to the monotypic genus Lanaria and the recently recognized family Lanariaceae. This plant is associated with the fynbos belt, a unique and biodiverse region in the southern part of the country. The species was first described in 1894 and is one of the few representatives of its family, which is now classified under the APG IV system of plant taxonomy.
