Lactuca alpestris is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae family, native to Crete and found in mountainous regions. It has a taproot, procumbent to ascending stems, and yellow ligulate corollas. The plant reaches 5-25 cm in height and is part of the Cichorieae tribe.

Lactuca alpestris is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae family, with a taproot and stems that are procumbent to ascending, ranging from 5 to 25 cm in height. Rosette leaves are narrowly obovate and runcinate, while cauline leaves are narrowly obovate, with lower ones runcinate and upper ones entire. The involucre is cylindrical, 8–9 mm long, and glabrous. The corolla is ligulate and yellow, with a ligule 12–15 mm long. Achenes are 7–8 mm long, including a 1.5–2 mm filiform beak, and the pappus is scabridulous, white, and about 3 mm long. The species is native to Crete, particularly the Ida mountains, and is a relative of lettuce.
