Acer capillipes, commonly known as Kyushu Maple, is a species of maple in the genus Acer, belonging to the family Sapindaceae. It is native to mountainous regions in Japan, specifically on central and southern Honshū, Kyūshū, and Shikoku islands, where it typically grows near mountain streams.

Description

Acer capillipes was first described in 1867 by Maxim. and is classified in the same taxonomic section as other snakebark maples, including A. pensylvanicum, A. davidii, and A. rufinerve. This species is distributed globally, though its natural habitat is limited to the specified regions in Japan. It is adapted to mountainous environments and is often found in proximity to streams.
