It is found in a wide range of locations, including Brazil, Suaita, Otanche, Chocó, Cundinamarca, Huila, Magdalena, Norte de Santander, Santander, Valle, Bolivia, Brazil Northeast, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Galápagos, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico Central, Mexico Gulf, Mexico Northeast, Mexico Northwest, Mexico Southeast, Mexico Southwest, and Nicaragua. The species was first described in 1990.
