Athrotaxis selaginoides, known as King Billy, is a conifer in the Cupressaceae family and is endemic to Tasmania, Australia. It is commonly called King Billy pine or King William pine, but it is not a true pine. This species is found in mountainous regions at elevations between 400 and 1,120 meters, where snow is common during the colder months and occasionally throughout the year.

Description

Athrotaxis selaginoides is a coniferous tree native to Tasmania, where it is restricted to high-altitude mountainous habitats. It is often referred to by the common names King Billy pine or King William pine, although it belongs to the cypress family (Cupressaceae), not the pine family. The species thrives in areas with frequent snowfall, particularly during the colder months, and can be found at elevations ranging from 400 to 1,120 meters.
