Juniperus deltoides, the Eastern prickly juniper, is a species of juniper native to the eastern Mediterranean. It is part of the Cupressaceae family and was first described in 2004 by R.P. Adams. While it has been classified as a subspecies of Juniperus oxycedrus, genetic research has shown that the two are not closely related.
Description
Juniperus deltoides is a coniferous tree in the cypress family, Cupressaceae. It is found in the eastern Mediterranean region. Initially, it was considered a subspecies of Juniperus oxycedrus, but phylogenetic analyses have demonstrated that the two species are not closely related. The species was formally described by R.P. Adams in 2004.
