Ziziphus nummularia, known as jujube, is a shrub native to arid regions of Afghanistan, India, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and Sinai. It can grow up to 6 meters tall and forms dense thickets. The species was first described in 1833 and belongs to the Rhamnaceae family.
Description
Ziziphus nummularia is a shrub species found in arid and semi-arid regions, including the Thar Desert, south Iran, and parts of the Middle East. It is characterized by rounded leaves with a pubescent adaxial surface, distinguishing it from Ziziphus jujuba. The plant thrives in hills, plains, and agricultural fields. Commonly referred to as wild jujube or jharberi in Hindi, it is adapted to dry environments and is part of the Rhamnaceae family. The species was first published in 1833 under the authorship of (Burm.f.) Wight & Arn.
