Jozini Cycad
Encephalartos senticosus Vorster
Encephalartos senticosus is a cycad species in the Zamiaceae family, native to the Lebombo Mountains in Mozambique, Eswatini, and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was first described in 1996 and was previously mistaken for Encephalartos lebomboensis. The species is commonly known as the Jozini Cycad or Lebombo cycad.
Description
Encephalartos senticosus is a member of the Zamiaceae family and is found in the Lebombo Mountains across Mozambique, Eswatini, and the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Before its formal description in 1996, it was often confused with the closely related Encephalartos lebomboensis due to their similar appearance and overlapping ranges. The species shares the common name Lebombo cycad with E. lebomboensis. Its scientific name was proposed by Vorster.
