Frankenia johnstonii, described by Correll in 1966, is a species in the Frankeniaceae family. It is native to northeastern Mexico and Texas. The plant was listed as endangered in the U.S. in 1984 but was proposed for delisting in 2003 due to increased sightings.
Description
Frankenia johnstonii, commonly known as Johnston's frankenia, is a flowering plant species in the Frankeniaceae family. It is found in southern Texas and northern Nuevo León, Mexico, with approximately 30 known occurrences. The species was designated as an endangered plant in the United States in 1984. However, subsequent surveys revealed a greater abundance of the plant than initially believed, leading to a proposal for its removal from the endangered species list in 2003.
