Aerva javanica, known as Java aerva, is a plant species in the Amaranthaceae family. It is native to parts of Africa, South-West Asia, and South Asia, and has become naturalized in northern Australia. The species was published in 1803.

Description

Aerva javanica, also referred to as kapok bush or desert cotton, is a member of the Amaranthaceae family. It is naturally distributed across regions of Africa and parts of Asia, including South-West and South Asia. The species has also been recorded in northern Australia, where it has become adventitious. The specific epithet was originally spelled 'javanica' in the 13th edition of Syst. Veg. The scientific name was first described by Burm.f. and later revised by Juss. ex Schult.
