Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A.Gray is a species in the Asteraceae family, also known as tree marigold, Mexican tournesol, Mexican sunflower, or Nitobe chrysanthemum. It is native to Mexico and Central America but has been introduced to many tropical areas, including parts of South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Pacific. The plant's adaptability allows it to function as either an annual or perennial, depending on local conditions. It is valued for its role in enhancing soil fertility in degraded soils, making it a useful species in agroforestry and ecological restoration. It was first described in 1883.
