Abies jaliscana, known as the Jalisco Fir, is a conifer in the family Pinaceae. It is native to the Mexican state of Jalisco and is found in fir forests at elevations between 1750 and 2450 meters. The species is classified as endangered under the Mexican Endangered Species Act due to its restricted range. It is closely related to Abies grandis and Abies concolor and belongs to the section Grandis of the genus Abies.
Description
Abies jaliscana was previously considered a variety or subspecies of Abies guatemalensis. It is a dominant species in the fir forests of western Mexico. The species is closely related to other firs from western North America and is part of the same section, Grandis. Its conservation status reflects the need for protection due to its limited geographic distribution.
