It is found in regions including Denmark, Sweden, Albania, Algeria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the East Aegean Islands, Greece, Italy, Crete, Crimea, Lebanon-Syria, the North Caucasus, Palestine, Romania, Sicily, the Transcaucasus, Tunisia, and Turkey. This species was first published in 1830.
