Ixia micrandra is a perennial flowering plant and geophyte of the Iridaceae family, native to the Western Cape region of South Africa. It is found in the fynbos biome, with a distribution ranging from Houwhoek to Kleinmond and De Hoop. The species has an area of occurrence of 4,078 km². It is threatened by habitat loss due to coastal development, vineyard expansion, protea plantations, and invasive species.
Description
Ixia micrandra is endemic to the Western Cape and is part of the fynbos vegetation. Its habitat has been significantly reduced by human activities, particularly in the coastal areas between Kleinmond and Hermanus and in the Palmiet-Hoogland Mountains. The species is currently at risk from ongoing land use changes, including the expansion of vineyards and the introduction of invasive plants.
