Hypoxis pratensis belongs to the genus Hypoxis and is a member of the Hypoxidaceae family, which is commonly known as the yellow star grass family. It is naturally distributed across the regions of New South Wales and Queensland in Australia. The species was formally described by Robert Brown and published in 1810.
