Hymenocardia acida is a small tree in the Phyllanthaceae family native to tropical Africa. It grows up to 10 m tall and is found in the Guinea and Sudanian savannah zones and deciduous woodlands, from Senegal east to Ethiopia and south to Zimbabwe. It is used for building, firewood, food, and medicinal purposes.

Description

Hymenocardia acida, described by Tul. in 1851, is a shrub or small tree found in wooded savannah and open forest habitats. It is distributed across several African countries, including Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, and others. Locally known as mupexi, it is utilized for construction, firewood, food, and medicinal applications. Conservation status is Least Concern (LC) according to IUCN (2017).
