Hydrolea zeylanica
Hydrolea zeylanica (L.) Vahl

Hydrolea zeylanica (L.) Vahl is a species in the genus Hydrolea, family Hydroleaceae, first described in 1791. It is distributed across the Australasian, Oriental (Indomalaya), and Palaearctic regions, including locations such as Andaman Is., Assam, Bangladesh, Borneo, Cambodia, China South-Central, China Southeast, Hainan, India, Jawa, Laos, Malaya, Myanmar, Nepal, and Singapore. The name was originally published by Linnaeus in 1753 but was later rejected in favor of a revised name in 1759. A discussion of its nomenclatural history indicates that the original material for the name is unclear, and a neotypification has been accepted under Art. 9.8.
Description
Hydrolea zeylanica (L.) Vahl belongs to the Hydroleaceae family and is native to a wide range of regions, including parts of South and Southeast Asia. Its nomenclatural history is complex, with the original name published by Linnaeus in 1753 being rejected in favor of a later name in 1759. The species was formally described by Vahl in 1791. Due to the lack of clear original material, a neotypification was accepted, with Davenport selecting material as a lectotype under the provisions of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Art. 9.8).
