Hydnocarpus castaneus is a tree species in the Achariaceae family, native to regions including Borneo, Cambodia, Laos, Malaya, Myanmar, New Caledonia, Sumatera, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is also cultivated in southern China. The species was first described in 1872 by Hook.f. & Thomson.

Description

Hydnocarpus castaneus is a member of the Achariaceae family and is distributed across several Southeast Asian and Pacific regions. It is now recognized that Hydnocarpus anthelminthicus is a synonym of this species. The tree's native range extends from Burma through Indochina to western Malesia. It has been introduced to southern China for cultivation.
