Hyacinthoides lingulata is a bulbous plant native to North Africa, found in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. It thrives in short grass and agricultural fields, flowering in autumn following the first rains. The species is characterized by pale flowers with a scent similar to the common bluebell. It requires a dry summer rest and is typically cultivated under glass in the British Isles, with watering needed from early September until the foliage dies back in May.

Description

Hyacinthoides lingulata (Poir.) Rothm., a member of the Asparagaceae family, is native to North Africa, specifically Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. It grows in short grasslands and agricultural areas, flowering in autumn with the onset of rains. The flowers are generally paler than those of the common bluebell but share a similar fragrance. The plant is not fully hardy in cooler climates and is commonly grown under glass in the British Isles. It requires a dry summer rest and regular watering from early September until the leaves die back in May. The species was first described in 1944.
