Hosta venusta, known as the handsome plantain lily, is a flowering plant in the Asparagaceae family. It is native to Jeju Island in South Korea and has a few populations in central Japan. This species is one of the smallest hostas, cold hardy to USDA zone 3, and shade tolerant. It is suitable for rock gardens, borders, and as a ground cover.

Description

Hosta venusta is a member of the Asparagaceae family and is native to Jeju Island, South Korea, with a few populations in central Japan. It is believed to have originated from isolated Hosta minor populations on Jeju since the last ice age. The species is notable for its small size and is cold hardy to USDA zone 3. It thrives in shaded environments and is well adapted for use in rock gardens, borders, and as a ground cover. The species was first described in 1935 by F. Maekawa.
