Description
Zannichellia palustris is a submerged aquatic plant that grows in marshes and other wetland habitats. Its scientific name refers to its marsh-dwelling nature, with the species epithet palustris derived from the Latin for 'of the marsh.' The plant has a widespread distribution, occurring in regions such as Newfoundland, Alberta, and British Columbia in North America, as well as in Europe, Asia, and South America. The species is diploid, with a confirmed chromosome count of 2n = 24. The type specimen for the species has been a subject of some debate, with most authors following Obermeyer's designation of LINN 1085.1 as the type, despite alternative proposals.
