Rheum australe is a flowering plant in the Polygonaceae family, commonly known as Himalayan rhubarb. It is native to the East Himalaya, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, and the West Himalaya. The plant grows in sub-alpine and alpine regions at elevations up to 4000 m. It has been used in traditional Indian Unani medicine and was historically used in European medicine as Indian rhubarb.

Description

Rheum australe, also known as Indian rhubarb or Red-veined pie plant, is a species in the genus Rheum. It is found in the Himalayan region, including East Himalaya, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, and West Himalaya. The plant is used for its medicinal properties, particularly in the Indian Unani system of medicine and previously in European medicine. It thrives in high-altitude environments, typically at elevations of 4000 m in sub-alpine and alpine zones.
