Himalayan elm

Ulmus wallichiana, known as the Himalayan elm, is a mountain tree native to the West Himalaya, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Nepal. It grows at elevations of 800–3000 m and is closely related to the wych elm, U. glabra. Sometimes confused with Ulmus villosa, a similar species found in the same region but in different habitats.
Description
Ulmus wallichiana is a member of the Ulmaceae family and is commonly called the Himalayan elm, Kashmir elm, or Bhutan elm. It is found in mountainous regions of central Nuristan in Afghanistan, through northern Pakistan and northern India to western Nepal. This species is often mistaken for Ulmus villosa, which shares the same region but prefers valley habitats and has a different appearance. The Himalayan elm is closely related to the wych elm, U. glabra. It was first described in 1848 by Planch.
