Hill Kurrajong
Brachychiton collinus Guymer

Brachychiton collinus, known as Hill Kurrajong, is a small deciduous tree native to North-West Queensland, Australia. It thrives in harsh conditions, particularly on rocky outcrops in the North-West savannah zone, where summer temperatures can reach 50°C and rainfall is unpredictable. The species is likely adapted to avoid fire-prone grass and brush areas, a trait common among Brachychiton species.
Description
Brachychiton collinus is a member of the Malvaceae family and is found primarily in the arid regions of Queensland. It is commonly observed between Cloncurry and Mount Isa, where it grows on rocky outcrops that are unsuitable for most other vegetation. This habitat preference may be due to the tree's vulnerability to fire. The species was first described in 1989 by Guymer and is adapted to the extreme and variable climate of the region, including high temperatures and sporadic heavy rainfall.
