Herniaria fruticosa
Herniaria fruticosa L.

Herniaria fruticosa L., a species in the Caryophyllaceae family, was first described by Linnaeus in 1755. It is native to Lebanon-Syria and Spain. The type material was initially cited as from Spain, in the Herb. Linnaeus collection, but was later clarified to not represent a single gathering. A lectotype was subsequently designated from a collection by Loefling.
Description
Herniaria fruticosa is a member of the Caryophyllaceae, a family commonly known as carnations or carnation family. It is distributed in the regions of Lebanon-Syria and Spain. Linnaeus originally described the species in 1755, citing type material from Spain in the Herb. Linnaeus collection (312 / 3 - 4). However, the cited sheets were not from a single gathering, and thus Article 9.15 of the nomenclatural code does not apply. Chaudhri (1968) later designated a lectotype based on a collection by Loefling to stabilize the taxonomic reference.
