Helicteres angustifolia L. is a species in the genus Helicteres, family Malvaceae, first described in 1753. It is native to regions including Cambodia, China, Laos, Malaya, the Philippines, and Vietnam. A discussion in Chapter 7 of Linnaean Plant Names and their Types addresses the holotype status of a specimen cited by Cristobal (Bonplandia 11: 176. 2001). While this specimen is considered original material and potentially eligible as a lectotype, its designation was published after 1 January 2001 without the required phrase 'designated here,' making the selection ineffective under the relevant nomenclatural rules.

Description

Helicteres angustifolia L., described in 1753, is a member of the Malvaceae family and is distributed across several regions in Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, China, Laos, Malaya, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The discussion in Chapter 7 of Linnaean Plant Names and their Types notes a specimen cited by Cristobal (Bonplandia 11: 176. 2001) as being part of the original material for the species and potentially suitable as a lectotype. However, the designation of this specimen as a lectotype was published after 1 January 2001, and as it lacked the required phrase 'designated here' as stipulated by Article 7.11 of the nomenclatural rules, the selection is not effective.
