Rhus sandwicensis, known as Hawaiian sumac, is a flowering plant in the Anacardiaceae family, native to Hawaii. It is a small tree growing up to 7.5 m tall with a trunk diameter of 10–30 cm. This species is found in dry, coastal, mesic, and wet forests at elevations between 180 and 610 m on all main Hawaiian islands.

Description

Rhus sandwicensis is a member of the genus Rhus and is part of the Anacardiaceae family, commonly referred to as the cashew or sumac family. It is endemic to the Hawaiian archipelago and is adapted to a range of forest types, including dry, coastal, mixed mesic, and wet habitats. The species is distributed across all main Hawaiian islands and typically grows at elevations from 180 to 610 m. It was first described by A. Gray in 1854.
