Gouania hillebrandii, known as hairyfruit chewstick, is an endangered shrub in the Rhamnaceae family. Endemic to Hawaii, it was once found on Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, and Kahoʻolawe but is now restricted to western Maui near Lahaina. It grows in dry forests at elevations between 244 and 518 meters.

Description

Gouania hillebrandii is a single-branched shrub with small white flowers. It was first described in 1888 by Oliver ex Hillebr. The species is now critically limited in distribution and is considered endangered. It is part of the Gouania genus and is one of the few native species of the Rhamnaceae family found in Hawaii.
