Gunnera petaloidea is a species of Gunnera native to Hawaii, occurring on the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and Hawaii. It grows on slopes with high rainfall at elevations between 700–1,830 m, primarily between 920–1,300 m. The plant is known by the Hawaiian names ʻape or ʻapeʻape.

Description

Gunnera petaloidea, described by Gaudich in 1830, belongs to the family Gunneraceae. It is restricted to Hawaii, where it thrives in moist, high-elevation environments. The species is part of the genus Gunnera, which includes other aquatic and semi-aquatic plants. Common names for this species include 'haha' in both the target language and English.
