Gymnostoma papuanum is a plant species in the family Casuarinaceae, native to New Guinea. Initially described in 1923 by Spencer Le Marchant Moore as Casuarina papuanum, it was reclassified into the genus Gymnostoma in 1982 by Lawrence Alexander Sidney Johnson. The species is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN as of 2018.
Description
Gymnostoma papuanum is a member of the Casuarinaceae family, commonly known as the she-oak or casuarina family. It is endemic to the island of New Guinea. The species was originally placed in the genus Casuarina by Spencer Le Marchant Moore in 1923. Later, in 1982, Lawrence Alexander Sidney Johnson reclassified it into the genus Gymnostoma. The IUCN Red List assessment in 2018 classified it as Least Concern, indicating that it is not currently facing significant conservation threats.
