Gustavia superba is a tree species in the Lecythidaceae family, native to Central and north-western South America. It is found in various regions of Colombia, as well as in Ecuador and Panama. The tree is characterized by a trunk 5-10 m tall and a rosette of large leaves at the top, which can reach up to 1.28 m in length and less than 30 cm in width. It is commonly known as membrillo, sachamango, Stinkwood, and heaven lotus.

Description

Gustavia superba belongs to the Lecythidaceae family and is native to Central and north-western South America. It is found in a range of locations in Colombia, including the departments of Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, Caldas, Cauca, Chocó, Córdoba, Magdalena, Meta, Nariño, Santander, Sucre, and Valle del Cauca, as well as in the Amazonian regions of the country. It is also present in Ecuador and Panama. The tree has a trunk 5-10 m tall and a rosette of large leaves at the top, with individual leaves measuring up to 1.28 m in length and less than 30 cm in width.
