Gunnera magellanica is a perennial rhizomatous dioecious herb found in Chile, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, and the Andean regions of Peru and Ecuador. It thrives in the damper areas of Magellanic subpolar forests, Valdivian temperate forests, and shrub formations on Tierra del Fuego, at elevations from sea level to 1,500 m.

Description

Gunnera magellanica is a member of the Gunneraceae family and is native to southern South America. It is distributed across various protected natural areas, including Parque Nacional Natural Tatamá, Parque Nacional Natural Complejo Volcanico Doña Juana - Cascabel, and Parque Nacional Natural Puracé, as well as regions in Caldas, Cauca, Chocó, Nariño, and Valle. It also occurs in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the Falkland Islands, Peru, and Sweden. This species was first described in 1789 by Lam.
