It is distributed across Labrador, Newfoundland, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and parts of the United States such as Vermont. First described in 1810, it is commonly found in northern latitudes spanning both Eurasia and North America.
