Oncophorus virens, known as green spur moss, is a moss species in the family Rhabdoweisiaceae. It is found in Labrador, Québec, Southeast, Norway, and Vermont in the US. This moss is typically found on rocks, especially wet ones, and along brook and lake shores. It is also common in late snow-beds, on soil, and in open wetlands. It is frequent in mountainous regions and calcium-rich lowland areas of northern Sweden.

Description

Oncophorus virens is characterized by its weak growth compared to O. integerrimus and has strongly dentate leaf margins. Dry leaves are tightly incurved. Plants from high elevations are often smaller but cannot be consistently distinguished from lowland plants based on morphology alone. Molecular differences exist between high and low elevation populations. This species is less commonly found in the southern third of Sweden.
