Rumex hydrolapathum, known as great water dock, is a perennial herb in the Polygonaceae family. It is native to wetlands and freshwater banks across Europe and Western Asia. This species is the tallest in the genus Rumex, with flowering stems reaching up to 2 m in height. It is notable for being a decaploid organism, with 200 chromosomes.

Description

Rumex hydrolapathum is a tall perennial herb that grows in fens and along freshwater banks. It is distributed across the Palaearctic region, including countries such as Flanders, Bulgaria, SE, FK, NO, DK, JP, Albania, Austria, the Baltic States, Belarus, Belgium, Central European Russia, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, East European Russia, and Finland. First described in 1778, this species is distinguished by its height and decaploid chromosome count. It is commonly referred to as great water dock, water dock, or giant water dock.
