Spiranthes magnicamporum, known as Great Plains ladies'-tresses, is an orchid native to North America. It is primarily found in the Great Plains, with populations in the eastern regions, particularly in former natural grasslands like the Black Belt prairies of the Southeast. The species grows in fens, wet prairies, and dry prairies, often in calcareous soils.

Description

Spiranthes magnicamporum is a member of the Orchidaceae family and is distributed across several U.S. states and Canadian provinces, including Manitoba, Ontario, Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, and Oklahoma. First described in 1973 by Sheviak, this orchid species is adapted to a range of prairie and fen habitats, with a preference for calcareous soils.
