It is a perennial flowering plant found in various regions across North America, including Labrador, Newfoundland, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, as well as parts of the United States like Vermont, Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, and Indiana. The species was first described and published in 1975.
