Simmondsia chinensis, known as goatnut, is an evergreen, dioecious shrub and the only species in the family Simmondsiaceae. It belongs to the order Caryophyllales and is native to the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico.

Description

Simmondsia chinensis (Link) C.K.Schneid. is a shrub species found in the Canary Islands, Spain, Arizona, California, Mexico Northeast, Mexico Northwest, New Mexico, and Utah. It is the sole representative of the Simmondsiaceae family and is commonly referred to as goatnut in English. The plant is native to arid regions of the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico.
