Nymphaea gigantea, known as the giant water-lily, is a perennial aquatic plant in the Nymphaeaceae family. It is native to northern and eastern Australia and possibly New Guinea, with a distribution that includes New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia. This species thrives in still water environments such as permanent and semi-permanent water bodies.

Description

Nymphaea gigantea, commonly called the giant water-lily, is a member of the Nymphaeaceae family. It is a herbaceous perennial plant that grows in still water habitats. Native to parts of northern and eastern Australia, it may also occur in New Guinea. The species has been cultivated beyond its native range. It was first described in 1852 by Hooker.
