Leucojum aestivum, known as giant snowflake, is a member of the Amaryllidaceae family. It is native to Europe, including regions from Spain and Ireland to Ukraine, and is also native to Turkey, Iran, and the Caucasus. The plant is naturalized in several regions including Denmark, South Australia, New South Wales, Nova Scotia, and parts of the eastern United States. It was first described in 1759 by L.

Description

Leucojum aestivum is cultivated as an ornamental plant and is commonly referred to as giant snowflake. It is absent from Scandinavia, Russia, Belarus, and the Baltic countries. The species has been introduced and naturalized in various locations outside its native range, including parts of Australia and North America. It is widely grown for its ornamental value.
