Raphia australis, known as the Giant Palm, is a raffia palm species in the Arecaceae family. It is native to the Kosi Bay region in southern Mozambique and northeastern KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The species faces habitat loss due to drainage for agricultural use, particularly in the Bobole Special Reserve. It is more securely found in the Kosi Bay area.

Description

Raphia australis is a member of the Arecaceae family and is commonly referred to as the Giant Palm. It is distributed in the Cape Provinces, KwaZulu-Natal, and Mozambique. The species is under threat from habitat loss caused by land drainage for agriculture. Conservation efforts are more effective in the Kosi Bay region compared to the Bobole Special Reserve, where the palm is at greater risk.
