Native to the drier regions of the Old World tropics and subtropics, it has been introduced to the southern United States, much of Latin America and the Caribbean, tropical islands, and Australia. It is regarded as an invasive weed and serves as a host to several significant agricultural pests.

Description

Chloris barbata, published in 1797, is a grass species belonging to the genus Chloris in the family Poaceae. It is found in regions including Parque Nacional Natural Macuira, Parque Nacional Natural Sumapaz, and various tropical and subtropical areas. Its range extends to parts of the southern US, Latin America, the Caribbean, and multiple Pacific and Indian Ocean islands. This species is recognized as an invasive weed, often associated with agricultural pests.
