Dioon spinulosum, known as Giant Dioon, is a species of cycad in the family Zamiaceae. It is native to the tropical rainforests of Veracruz and Oaxaca, Mexico, where it grows on limestone cliffs and rocky hillsides at low elevations up to 300 meters. This cycad is one of the tallest in the world, capable of reaching heights of 16 meters.

Description

Dioon spinulosum was first described in 1883 and is found in regions including the Gulf and Southwest of Mexico, as well as in botanical gardens such as the Jardín Botánico de Bogotá. It is a member of the genus Dioon and is distinguished by its tall stature and spiny features. The plant thrives in specific ecological conditions and is an important representative of the Zamiaceae family.
