Lagerstroemia speciosa (L.) Pers., known as Giant Crape-myrtle, is a deciduous tree native to tropical South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Melanesia. It belongs to the Lythraceae family and is characterized by its bright pink to light purple flowers. The species is distributed across regions including Bangladesh, Borneo, Cambodia, China South-Central, and others. First published in 1806, it is part of the Lagerstroemia genus.

Description

Lagerstroemia speciosa is a prominent member of the Lythraceae family, noted for its showy flowers and wide natural distribution. It is found in regions such as Assam, the Comoros, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. The species was initially described in 1806 and has since been documented in various botanical studies. Furtado & Srisuko discussed its material in LINN but did not formally treat it as the type. The tree is valued for its ornamental qualities and is a common sight in tropical landscapes.
